HELMETS FOR EVERY DISCIPLINE

MTB Helmets: For trail riding, we recommend you to wear a mountain bike helmet. MTB helmets offer high levels of protection and often come with a low rear section to offer the best protection for your neck. In addition, MTB helmets feature large vents on the top for improved ventilation. A built-in visor can protect your face and eyes from tree branches while you ride.

Full Face Helmets: Full face MTB helmets with a chin guard will protect your head when riding downhill. A full face cycling helmet offers a high level of protection for challenging terrain.

Road Helmets : are designed for all cyclists who like to ride fast. They are made with a lightweight construction and come in streamlined, aerodynamic designs for fast rides. In addition, large ventilation openings direct airflow through the helmet.

Skate / BMX Helmets: BMX or skate helmets are great for dual slalom, four-cross (4X) or dirt jumping. These helmets come with low sides to protect your head against side impacts. In addition, skate and BMX helmets feature a low back.

Urban Helmets and City Helmets:For all those looking for a cycle helmet that keeps them safe on daily rides, their trip to the supermarket or their commute to work, we offer a wide range of urban helmets. They are versatile and offer a high level of comfort for daily commutes. Featuring shock-absorbing foam and a robust outer shell, they provide effective protection in the event of a crash. Large vents provide the necessary ventilation. Reflectors offer additional protection through better visibility.

Kids Helmets: Bike helmets are also available in kids sizes. Youth bike helmets protect your child’s head when sitting in the child bike seat or riding on their own.

BIKE HELMET SAFETY STANDARD

The primary function of a bike helmet is to protect your head. To achieve this, the manufacturers use different technologies, conduct research and subject their helmets to a variety of tests. To make sure bike helmets are safe, there is a mandatory safety standard for all cycle helmets sold in the EU and Switzerland: the European standard DIN EN 1078 (CE).

  • In these tests, helmets are placed on a headform weighing between 3 and 6 kilograms and dropped from a height of 1.5 m to a horizontal surface. This way, helmet and headform can reach impact speeds of up to 19.5 km/h.

  • In a second test, helmet and headform are dropped from a height of 1.1 metres onto a kerbstone anvil with an impact speed of 16.5 km/h.

Cycle helmets must meet the EN-1080 standards. Many helmets are also TÜV certified or have been awarded the GS mark of tested safety. For you this means: Only helmets that meet the CE EN1078 standard offer sufficient protection. All helmets in the ROSE range meet this standard.

THE PERFECT FIT – HERE’S WHAT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER WHEN BUYING A HELMET

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEAD

Even the best bike helmet is worthless if it does not fit properly and, in the worst case, slips out of place or comes off in a crash. So getting the right fit is essential with any bike helmet.

1. To find out which helmet size you need, you’ll need a tape measure.
2. Wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your head, starting just above your brow line.
3. This measurement is your helmet size in centimetres (cm).

FINDING THE RIGHT RETENTION SYSTEM FOR YOUR HEAD SHAPE

A helmet should not only have the right size but also the right retention system for your head. When wearing a helmet, the safety buckle is positioned underneath the chin. The retention system of a helmet is right for you, if:

  • the straps form a V around your ears

  • the chin straps do not dig into your skint

  • you are able to fit one finger between the strap and your chin

  • the straps do not interfere and the helmet fits comfortably/p>

HOW TO FINE-TUNE THE FIT OF A BIKE HELMET

Most cycle helmets have a ring fit system with a ratchet dial on the rear for individual adjustment to a wide range of head shapes. To perfectly adjust and fit a bike helmet, you should make sure it fits close to your head.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHEN BUYING A BIKE HELMET

HOW MUCH SHOULD A GOOD BIKE HELMET COST?

There are bike helmets with prices under 50€ and helmets costing several hundreds euros. The most important thing is that your helmet complies with the safety standards mentioned above. The price usually does not reflect differences in safety or protection, but rather in the quality and finish, ventilation and comfort.

WHEN SHOULD I REPLACE MY BIKE HELMET?

You should always replace your cycle helmet with a new one if you can see defects with the naked eye. Helmets with cracks in the shell or a material that looks chipped are a no-no. If you have already been in a bike crash where your head hit, you should also look for a new helmet model. That’s the only way to ensure that the helmet offers optimal protection in the next crash.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT HELMETS FOR KIDS?

Kids’ helmets are basically smaller versions of “adult helmets”. In addition, they are usually equipped with an extended sun visor to protect young eyes from the sun and come with a large number of vents. Bike helmets for kids are available not only in black and white, but also in many different colours and with cheerful patterns or logos to make them more attractive.

MIPS – IS IT WORTH IT?

MIPS is used in many cycle helmets. The "Multi-Directional Impact Protection System" was developed by brain surgeons and scientists to reduce non-linear forces acting on the brain when there’s a rotational impact. For this purpose, there’s a plastic shell inside the helmet that can rotate inside the outer shell. This rotation helps absorb rotational forces and reduce rotational energy. We stock a wide range of bike helmets using MIPS.

The question of how much safer a MIPS equipped helmet really is is still discussed among experts. So for you, it is much more important that a bike helmet bears a test seal and has good safety test results./p>
